Columbia HeartSource is committed to providing our affiliates and their clinicians’ opportunities to build and advance their cardiovascular programs. The affiliate network has access to a full schedule of educational events, live-CME conferences, videoconference and web-based educational activities. Affiliates are welcome to attend any Columbia University Department of Cardiology or Cardiac Surgery conferences, and receive waived or reduced registration to many partner programs. HeartSource and Columbia faculty members provide regular grand rounds lectures on site at our affiliate institutions.
The HeartSource affiliate members have 24/7 access to the clinical team. With a web-based system for secure image upload, a curbside consult can be virtually done in real-time. When appropriate, HeartSource physicians will obtain licensing and hospital privileges at the affiliate site to be able to provide hands-on proctoring and affiliate physicians are encouraged to scrub-in and observe cases at Columbia. Specific proctoring can also be set-up to meet the specific needs of the institution or clinician.
Concentrated planning for service line growth and development is essential in order to enhance your organization’s competitive position and create a sustainable advantage. HeartSource will assess existing clinician and administrative resources and work with each affiliate to optimize nursing and allied health care professionals in their delivery of evidence-based care.
Some of the programs we have put together in the past include:
- Topic specific grand rounds lectures – on site or at Columbia University
- Observation and/or hands-on proctoring in the clinical setting
- Clinical workshops
- CME, CEU and staff training
- Policy & Procedure review and implementation plans
- Tailored nurse education programs based on the Novice to Expert model
Columbia University Medical Center is an internationally recognized leader in the creation of new knowledge and therapies to improve health in individuals and populations. HeartSource physicians are renowned in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease, leading pivotal clinical trials that take new techniques and technologies from bench to bedside. Columbia’s Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery departments run robust programs in biomedical and device-oriented clinical trials supported by industry, government, and nonprofit grants. Insights gained from these activities have been widely disseminated in the medical community and have provided the impetus for new technological developments in the field.
In addition to its scientific benefits, research promotes faculty retention and program stability. Research places the institution in the vanguard of new discoveries, leading to expanded services and clinical leadership. HeartSource has a strong commitment in the advancement of cardiovascular care through clinical research. We will partner with affiliates, when appropriate, on multi-center trails. These collaborations engender academic and promotional partnerships for the HeartSource client.
Annual Network Day
The HeartSource affiliate network comes together once a year for a day and a half program at Columbia University. This conference is designed for cardiovascular healthcare professionals who are involved in the treatment and management of patients with cardiac and vascular disease and for healthcare administrators who are interested in current trends in healthcare strategies for enhancing centers of excellence in cardiovascular care. The course has grown over the years and includes clinical lectures, quality and outcomes presentations, and direct affiliate participation. Affiliates are invited to bring as many team members as they would like and each year the program focuses on network specific items. The program is accredited for CME and CEU and is free to affiliates. The goal for Network day is to foster cross pollination with other network affiliates to hear what is working and what isn’t and how can we better serve our clients.
All regularly schedule conferences are open to HeartSource affiliates to attend, most are available via videoconference and category one CME is available when appropriate.
The programs currently being made available live or via videoconference are:
- Cardiac Cath Conference
- Cardiology Grand Rounds
- Cardiac Surgery Rounds
- Electrophysiology Conference
- Echo Sonographers Conference
